Samuel McMahan Family Cemetery

Birth/Death date from records of Samuel McMahan Family Cemetery found in Marshall Library, Marshall Missouri.

Location: T-49-N; R-18-W; Section: 20; in the northeast quarter of the northeast quarter of the section.

On the land owned by Tommy Sites; directly across the road from Mr. Sites' home (1976). Near this cemetery was located Fort McMahan, built during the War of 1812, and burned to the ground in 1814. Samuel McMahan was one of the original settlers of Lamine Township, but he is not buried here. He was killed by the Indians on Christmas week of 1814; and is buried at the Old Fair Grounds. This later became the site of St. Joseph's Hospital.

This cemetery is the resting place of many of the descendants of Samuel McMahan. There have been some bodies removed to other burial places. This cemetery is fenced.
