Notes for James Claiborne Rothwell
James Claiborne Rothwell Obituary:
Died--Rothwell. At the home of his son, J H Rothwell, north of the city
on Thursday night March 8, 1894, of a complication of diseases and old age.
Uncle Jimmy Rothwell, as he was familiarly known was a pioneer in this
section where he lived for over half a century and where he was known and
esteemed as a neighbor and a friend to all.
He was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, in 1814 and moved to Missouri in
1839 and settled in Johnson County where he resided continuously to the time
of his death. He pre-empted the place upon which he died. He became a member
of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church a number of years ago and his whole
life had been such as a consistent christian should live.
Five children survive him, Mrs James Hayes, Jos H Rothwell, Mrs A S Mayes,
and Mrs Chas Gossett, the latter of Carthage.
He was buried in the home cemetery with funeral services by Rev Houx. A good
man has gone. His deeds will live after him.
